Lonely Planet Cancun Cozumel the Yucatan Travel Guide Lonely Planet John Hecht Lucas Vidgen 9781786570178 Books Reviews

  • I've almost always been happy with Lonely Planet guides for destinations all over the world, but I found this one to be somewhat lacking. My primary complaint is that, while it includes a great deal of information about specific restaurants and hotels/resorts, it lacks detail about things to do and see, which, of course, is why people go there in the first place. I was particularly disappointed by the very brief attention it gives to the numerous adventure parks in the area. Still, it's better than nothing, and the selection of travel guides for this region seems very sparse for some reason.
  • I used this in my travels this past August around the Yucatan Pennisula. We started in Cancun (not a good city, unless you want to visit Miami in Mexico or go into a sprawling city with a lack of good walking areas) and then beat feet for Chichen Itza and then Merida. This book was great at finding places to eat and providing addresses of points of interests.

We journeyed to the incredible city of Campeche and hit ruins at Edsna, Calakmul, Tulum and Uxmal. The book provided a nice history of each as well as a map. Still, get a human guide for Uxmal, Chichen Itza and Calakmul.

We also visited a number of great cenotes.

    Really great guide book.
  • Very general info
Not worth buying, it doesn't provide any specifics, I don't think these people actually went to these destinations, they just compiled information from Google.
  • Fantastic book. Went to the Yucatan area in March, 2017 and it was super helpful to have while on the trip. As plans changed, we were able to quickly look up new possible areas to visit. I highly recommend the ruins at Ek Balam, which I discovered while reading the book.
  • I purchased this as a gift for my personal trainer who is travelling to Mexico this spring. She will primarily be in Cozumel - which is great because this book focuses on Cozumel specifically. However this book is great because it also includes information that pertains to the entire state of the Yucatán as well...so side trips will also be covered. GREAT BUY!
  • We bought this for our honeymoon to Cozumel, and while it's a great book, we really expected a larger section for Cozumel! It was like 10-15 pages? Pinterest was more useful.
  • This book was perfect for our Yucatan vacation. We stayed in a smaller town than the big resort towns, and this guide was great for getting around. My only complaint is that we didn't have enough time to go to all of the places listed.
  • Great pics and details but after going on the trip it had very few of the main cities we needed. Disappointed in book.
